Sod Wayne, Coleen fronts one of this years best campaigns so far

I saw the excellent Nice Boots Camp Littlewoods ad last night (first aired on September 1st, done by Leo Burnett) and switched the PC on morning to write about it – only to find that her husband has apparently lived up to his reputation and been unfaithful to her.

I imagine she’s devastated, but she might take a tiny bit of comfort in the fact that she’s fronting what I think might be one of this year’s best campaigns so far:

No, it’s not going to win a D&AD for style and creativity but it’s memorable, engaging, has a life beyond the TV screen and is going to shift an awful lot of frocks.

The microsite the ad directs you to offers wallpapers, free downloads of the track used in the ad, competitions, style advice, e-newsletters and a shortcut to shop the clothes seen in the ad.  It just needs a bit more share-ability (the facebook and twitter links aren’t very prominent and there’s no incentive to send to a friend) and it would be a textbook campaign.

Although I expect the Littlewoods press office are currently running around like headless chickens, IMHO the prospect of a wronged Mrs Rooney can only further endear her to the women of Britain.

Go Colleen, we’re rooting for you.

updated 10/09/10 – I properly listened to the lyrics of ‘these boots are made for walkin’ last night and they’re scarily relevant.  As an example:

You’ve been messin’ where you shouldn’t have been a messin’
and now someone else is gettin’ all your best.

These boots are made for walking, and that’s just what they’ll do
one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.

  1. I love it. Captures the feeling that Mother’s earlier Boots work did but looks like it will go one further and translate well online too.
