Why are caravans always white?

I’ve just got back from an expedition up the A1 and having passed a fair few caravans (including a lot of Romany ones, en route to Appleby Horse Fair), it made me wonder – why are all modern caravans white?

There are some obvious reasons, like reflecting sunlight to keep the caravan cool, being visible on the road and white being the cheapest paint colour (for cars, anyway), but there must be another reason?

If cars come in ‘scarab’ and ‘havana’ and ‘tellurium silver’, then why can’t you buy a caravan to match?
