Men do maps, women do SatNav

Following another cross-country motorway adventure, I’ve come to the conclusion that although lots of men own SatNavs, they tend to prefer not to actually use them.

Its the modern equivalent of the “no, I’m not asking for directions” issue – why should they trust and obey a machine when they are genetically engineered with a perfect sense of direction and advanced map reading skills.

OK, OK I’m generalising a tad here, but just because I’ve been somewhere once or twice before, it doesn’t mean that I don’t want the reassurance of someone or something reminding me when the junction is coming up.  Its not exactly robust insight, but all the all-user ‘can I borrow a TomTom’ emails I regularly recieve always come from female colleagues.

So maybe SatNavs need to be positioned differently – a day to day helping hand for women and a necessary evil in exceptional circumstances for men.

You try tactfully telling one of the Board who’s chauffeuring you to the meeting that “I don’t think this is the road we normally come in on?”
