Just realised that I should probably explain what I mean in my previous post by playing at shops.
I think I picked it up from my Dad who spent his career in retail and was often infuriated by people who saw opening a shop as some kind of charming part-time hobby requiring no experience or training, rather than a demanding career option.
In more general terms, I define playing at shops as anyone who behaves as if something is easy or simple, when in reality it is anything but. Anyone who isn’t committed and doesn’t know what they are doing. You know who you are…

Holy Cow has posted a list of instances when Planners should keep asking why. Very though provoking. Slightly scary too. All those agencies who are playing at shops when it comes to Planning, take note.
